La Conner Yacht Sales

La Conner Yacht Sales was established in 1971 by three Canadians, and the office was located in a small building that was adjacent to the Potlatch RV Resort here in the La Conner Marina. In 1975, Bill Campbell and El Meyers purchased the brokerage and moved its offices to the La Conner Machine & Drydock building at 539 N. Third Street, also within the La Conner Marina. In 1986, Bill Campbell sold the business to Gordon and Jane Godfrey, who had moved to the La Conner area from Vashon Island. In 1989, Art Kaplan, who was living in Portland, Oregon, and Marcie Miles, who was living in Bellevue, Washington, persuaded Gordon and Jane to sell the yacht brokerage business, and now Art and Marcie have owned and operated LCYS for over 23 years. La Conner Yacht Sales has continuously represented boats located in the La Conner and Shelter Bay area for over 40 years, uniting buyers and sellers.

Sales Staff

Art Kaplan; President, owner/operator of LCYS from 1989 to present. Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) since 2004. Performs water demonstrations, excellent sales producer, loves the water. Greatest life experience to date: skiing one-on-one with Stein Erickson. Born in Seattle, graduated from Garfield High School in 1963.

All of our boat listings are located in La Conner or Shelter Bay and no appointments are necessary for viewing. We are fully, and properly licensed, bonded and insured. We co-broker our listings with cooperative brokerages on a 50/50-commission split, allowing further exposure for each listing.

We place print ads each month in popular yachting magazines. Thousands of magazines are purchased or given complimentary to prospective buyers who wish to have reading material on board, at home or at the office. We have found that integrated marketing strategies give our customers the comfort of knowing their boat is being marketed responsibly and effectively.

La Conner Yacht Sales has had a 55′ Alaskan for sale through this office that has sold three times since 1998, her first and second sales were due to our website and her last sale was due to an ad we had in a magazine.

Repeat Sales

A large portion of our sales are boats that have been previously sold by La Conner Yacht Sales. Some once, twice and often as four times!  We sold one particular boat 3 times within 11 months! We have remained steadfast and focused in the same marine business and understand the responsibility of working as a mediator with professional, legal and ethical standards.

Professional Associations and Accreditations

Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA)

La Conner Yacht Sales has been a member of the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA) since 1989. NYBA objectives consist of actively promoting boating to the boating public, to unite those in the business of new and used yacht sales, to promote cooperation and professionalism among its members, to promote high standards of conduct in the yacht sales business, to encourage a greater interest in the welfare and safety of the boating public through public education, lobbying efforts and cooperation with other organizations. Art has served on the Board of Directors, and has been on the Ethics committee, either as a member or chairperson for over 10 years. Marcie has served 6 years on the Meetings and Programs committee, and presently serves as a member of the Board of Directors.

Certified Professional Yacht Brokers (CPYB)

Our office is designated as a National Yacht Brokers Association ENDORSED OFFICE!  Both Art and Marcie are CPYB accredited. With the National Yacht Brokers Certification Program, boat sellers and buyers are now in a better position to select qualified, competent yacht brokers. The National Yacht Broker Certification program is a joint effort of the Yacht Brokers Association of America (YBAA, Annapolis, MD), the Florida Yacht Brokers Association (FYBA, Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA, Seattle, WA). The yacht broker certification project objective is to set a performance baseline for professional yacht brokers nationwide. In order to maintain the CPYB designation, each broker must partake in continuing education.
